ST531 · Euler Buckling

Buckling device for studying the four Euler cases on the ST500 digital frame

A clamping device for slender test bars, driven by a 1:10 lever arm, that mounts in the ST500 digital frame and turns buckling from a derivation on the board into a live, instrumented experiment. End conditions can be switched between free, hinged and clamped, so all four Euler cases can be realised and compared directly. Load and deflection are measured by the smart accessories (ST502 load unit, ST503 distance measurement, ST501 support) and streamed in real time to the Sangari software for verification against the Euler formulae.
ST531 — Euler buckling module
Experiments
  • Investigation of buckling behaviour under different support conditions:
    • Case 1 — fixed-free bar
    • Case 2 — pinned-pinned bar
    • Case 3 — fixed-pinned bar
    • Case 4 — fixed-fixed bar
  • Verification of the Euler theory for elastic buckling
  • Calculation and measurement of the critical buckling force
  • Measurement of force and deflection, with automatic identification of the smart accessories
